HIGH flying triplets were among those celebrating at Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan on Thursday.

Alex Roberts, who last year was taking part in the Sutton Trust Summer School at St John’s College in Cambridge when his AS results came out, was “ecstatic” to achieve 3A*s and an A in biology, chemistry, physics and maths.

He will now head to Magdalene College, Cambridge, to study biological natural sciences.

There was success for the Davies triplets, as all three enjoyed success.

This included Patrick and Rachel gaining As in art and textiles.

The third sibling had already left the school when the Journal photographer arrived at Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan.

Lucy Humphreys gained 2A*s (Welsh baccalaureate and psychology) and 1A (English literature) plus a B, but was one mark from an A in History.

Ruby Edgeley achieved 3As in history, psychology and English literature and an A* for her Welsh baccalaureate.

All pupils at the school achieved at least two good grade passes and more students than ever achieved the higher grades.

Alex said: “Last year I received my AS results over messenger. This year it’s been great to be able to open them at school.

“I was shocked and surprised but extremely happy.”

Lucy, who is going on to study law at Manchester University where TV personality Judge Rinder took his law degree, said: “Thank you to all the staff who worked so hard to help me achieve such excellent grades.”

Lee Cummins, headteacher, said that he was delighted with the year 12 and year 13 results.

He added: “The pupils have again achieved a great set of results across the range of academic and vocational subjects we offer at the school.

“Each year students are out performing the previous year which is great to see.

“However, the most important outcome is that learners can fulfil their ambitions and I am delighted that so many are able to move onto university or other routes based on their stunning performance.”

Sadie Wagstaff was brave enough to open her results live on camera for the Journal. The year 12 pupil gained a B in history, A in drama and B in English.

There is still time to enrol on courses. Email info@emrysapiwan.conwy.gov.uk or visit the school on Friday, August 31 between 9am and 11am. Application forms can also be completed via the school website.
