A FAIRGROUND ride on Anglesey which appeared to be balancing on beer barrels has been shut down while safety investigations are carried out.

Concerns over the ride at Newry Beach came after Nia Hogarth posted pictures to social media which seem to show the waltzers being supported by aluminium kegs.

Nia says she went down to the fairground with her husband and three children and was “shocked” at what she found.

Complaints have been sent to the Mayor of Holyhead, Cllr Keith Thomas and the Anglesey council and health and safety executive have been informed.

Holyhead councillor Vaughan Williams re-assured worried locals saying: "Public safety, especially the safety of children is of paramount importance. The annual fair is still open for business and well worth a visit.

"I'm very grateful to the member of the public who passed on concerns and also to the Mayor for his swift response."

The funfair is in place ahead of the Holyhead Festival and is expected to be there throughout the week. Ride operator George Simons Funfair have claimed that it is “safe”.
