RHYL Football Club has confirmed that a volunteer was arrested on Saturday afternoon.

A statement from the Lilywhites also confirmed that the investigation “does not directly relate to activities in connection to the football club”, after officials received confirmation of the arrest from North Wales Police.

The incident happened when the man in question was in attendance at the Lilywhites’ first pre-season fixture of the summer against Altrincham, and he has subsequently been suspended from his duties at the club following the arrest.

An internal review will now be held under the leadership of director John Hughes, who is a former Chief Inspector for North Wales Police.

This will include the safeguarding structure that is currently in place at the Belle Vue Stadium.

A club statement, said: “Rhyl Football Club can confirm that a volunteer for the Club was arrested on Saturday afternoon.

“The club has been informed by North Wales Police that the investigation does not directly relate to the activities of the individual in connection to the Football Club.

“The club confirms that the individual has been suspended from duties at the Club pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation by North Wales Police.

“The club also confirms that an internal review will be undertaken by Club Director, John Hughes Jones a former Chief Inspector for North Wales Police, which will include the Club's Safeguarding policies.”
