Llandudno Specsavers have thrown their support behind two nurses who ran the London Marathon to raise money for the Stanley Eye Unit at Abergele Hospital.

Pat, 58, and Heulwen, 56, both staff nurses at the Eye Unit, ran the London Marathon this year to raise funds for local charity Eyesight, which supports the work of the unit, funding essential equipment and training courses for staff.

The Stanley Eye Unit deals with more than 40,000 scheduled appointments and 6,000 surgical procedures plus casualties a year and relies on fundraising to ensure the best quality care.

Lynne McKean from landudno’s Specsavers, which is located in the Victoria Centre, said the store jumped at the chance to be able to help the cause and together the group along with family and friends have raised more than £5,800.

She said: ‘The Stanley Eye Unit is a fantastic resource providing patients with much-needed care and facilities, so we wanted to show our support with this donation.

“Congratulations from the whole Specsavers team to Pat and Heulwen on their remarkable achievement.”
