A 53-year-old man described as being involved with health and safety and traffic marshalling on a building site has been banned from driving for 54 months after failing a breath test.
Mark Rymer Butterworth, of Lyndon Drive, Kinmel Bay, admitted driving a Fiat Panda while four times the alcohol limit.
James Neary, prosecuting at Llandudno court, said police had been alerted by a member of the public worried about the defendant’s driving.
Butterworth, who appeared drunk, told an officer: "I'm a little over the limit.”
He faced a minimum three-year ban because of previous drink-driving.
He was told by judge Gwyn Jones said: "This is a matter where immediate custody is more than justified.”
But a 16 weeks suspended jail term was imposed with rehabilitation and alcohol treatment for three months. Butterworth must pay £200 costs.
A probation officer said Butterworth had suffered bereavement issues. Butterworth had been drinking at home and drove to an off-licence to buy more alcohol.
