THIS week's picture of the week shows Rhyl’s Pont y Ddraig bridge all lit up to mark 100 years since women were first given the vote.

The shot was snapped by John Knight as part of a #LoveRhyl tourism project.

Last Tuesday marked a century since women won the right to vote. The hashtag #100years has trending on social media. Key figures are being celebrated from the suffragette and suffragist movements, including Emmeline Pankhurst and suffragist leader Millicent Fawcett.

John has been selected alongside nine other amateur photographers as a Rhyl ‘Instagram champion’. Each week, the Journal is featuring the work of one of the champions.

He said: "I have always loved Rhyl, having spent most of my childhood holidays here at the fairground or the beach.

"During school holidays I actually worked for two summers on the 'gaff' (fairground) and three seasons as a waiter at Prestatyn holiday camp.

"Having spent all of my working life in the Midlands, I chose to retire to sunny Rhyl in 2014. I am constantly delighted to be living beside the sea - the weather, the beach, the tides, the sky, the winds - every day is different."
