A FORMER railwayman will celebrate his 100th birthday today (Wednesday).
Victor Stone, from Dyserth, worked on the railways for 41 years as a goods clerk at various docking stations around the Mersey and moved to Dyserth in 1970.
He served in the Army for the duration of the Second World War, starting in the fusiliers and then becoming a member of the REME regiment. He took retirement at the age of 59.
He married his wife, Rene, in 1941. She died in 2007 after what Mr Stone described as “66 very happy years together”.
The secret to vitality, Mr Stone said, was “plenty of fresh home cooking and a lot of cycling and outdoor activities in my younger years”.
Victor has a son and family who live in Prestatyn.
He plans to celebrate his milestone with family and friends at the Beaches Hotel, Prestatyn on June 4.
