A WOMAN has spoken of her fears after her car tyres were slashed, trapping her and her husband in a snow-covered forest for four hours.

Judith Hewitt and her husband Bob went for a walk in Clocaenog Forest last week when the incident happened.

The couple are regular walkers in the area and had parked in a clearing about four miles from the village of Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr.

In the woods Mrs Hewitt, a well-known anti-hunt activist, confronted men she believed were hunting.

Afterwards they returned to their car.

“As we got closer I could see our car and it looked funny because it was lower than it should have been,” she said.

“When we got to the car we could see that all of the tyres had been slashed. I dialled 999 because there was no signal and it was getting dark. There was a car parked next to us but it was fine.”

The Hewitts had a four-hour wait before they managed to get home thanks to a recovery vehicle.

She said: “I was really angry that somebody would do something like this and I was scared that we would be stuck up there.

“It was getting very cold and was freezing. We are both fit but the conditions were bad.”

Mr and Mrs Hewitt had arrived at the forest at about 2pm but did not make it back to their home in Rhyl until 10pm that night.

“I am going to be very careful when I go walking again,” said Mrs Hewitt.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the vehicle was damaged.

A police statement said: “At approximately 3pm on Saturday, January 16, unknown offender(s) caused damage to a Volkswagen Golf whereby all four tyres were punctured while parked on the crossroads near Pentre Llyn Cymmer and Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr.

“Anybody who may have information is asked to contact officers at Corwen Police Station on 101, quoting reference number RC16007578.”
