A St Asaph team of builders will be teeing off to raise money a medical research charity.

The team from Macbryde Homes in St Asaph will be taking part in Arthritis Research UK  annual golf day on September 12 at Oswestry Golf Club.

They have a special reason for supporting the charity that is investing millions of pounds every year in its research to take the pain away for millions of arthritis sufferers and help them remain active.

Creative Director Ruth Macbryde lost her father last year after he lived with the crippling pain of arthritis for many years.

Scratch golfer and Macbryde Homes Financial Controller Tim Saunders also knows what it is like to live with arthritis.

Tim’s wife Carol has had rheumatoid arthritis for the past 17 years after the birth of their daughter.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an auto-immune disease that causes inflammation in the joints resulting in chronic pain and debilitation.

Arthritis Research UK pioneered and developed a group of biologic drugs, anti-TNF drugs that have revolutionised the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other forms of inflammatory arthritis over the last two decades allowing hundreds of thousands of people to remain active and mobile and do the things they love.

Local Arthritis Research UK regional fundraising manager Ruth Owen added: “Arthritis is a cruel and debilitating condition that causes untold pain to an estimated 10 million people in Britain today.  Macbryde Homes and their staff have been fantastic supporters of our work over the past 4 years in sponsoring the bulk of the costs of the golf day and this year they will sponsor all costs, allowing us to invest even more funds in our vital research and educational work.

"It is a pleasure working with Macbryde Homes and Tim is one of our most loyal and talented golfers involved in the golf day.

"I hope that a few more local companies will join us this year and spend an enjoyable afternoon playing on a beautiful course and relaxing with a delicious dinner in the evening while supporting our cause.”
