A video tour of the Storiel Open Art 2020 exhibition has been launched

Last year’s Open Art exhibition at Storiel, Bangor, can now be viewed digitally, providing a fully immersive experience of all the fantastic artwork which was on display.

The theme for the exhibition was ‘The Outdoors’, which received and excellent response by talented artists.

Before the first lockdown last March, 94 items were selected from the many entries to appear in the exhibition.

Delyth Gwawr Williams, Visual Arts Officer, said: “Due to Covid-19 restrictions, opportunities to view the exhibition at Storiel had been very limited. But we did not want the exhibition to be forgotten and wanted to create a lasting record of all the wonderful artwork.

“So we set about to record the artwork in video format – which provides a very engaging and emotional experience for viewers as they are guided virtually around the exhibition. It is the first Storiel exhibition to be captured and shared in such a way.”

In the video you will see artwork by Mark Albrow, ‘Sunset Over the West Shore’, a digital print which was awarded the 2020 Selector’s Choice prize.

Also you’ll see photography by Pete Whitehead which was highly commended, and works by Brenda Chaffer, Rene Evans, Judith Samuel, Joan West and Dorothy M Williams which were also commended.

Storiel was able to welcome visitors for a period last autumn, allowing people to vote for their favourite piece for the People’s Choice prize.

With the most votes, the People’s Choice prize was awarded to the 3D artwork by Jenet Peers, ‘They go out once a year and discuss mental health issues’, made of fired clay and papier mâché.
