A RHYL homecoming will set the next spellbinding series of superb classical music in motion Rhyl next week.

Rhyl Music Club’s 2019-20 International Concert Series returns to the town hall for the next six months with another set of 12 unmissable performances reaching into the new year.

To launch the new programme, the outstanding London based, North Wales bred The A5 Brass Quintet - named for the route which connects London to North Wales - will return home to take their place amongst a schedule celebrating global artists of an international standard.

The five piece brass band - which includes trumpeters Gwyn Owen and Pippa Scourse, Dewi Jones on the horn, trombonist Merin Lleu and tuba player Peter Cowlishaw - have a long history with the club, with their collaborative efforts stemming from their involvement in the INSPIRE youth music project.

Made up of past and present students of the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music and Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Owen and Scourse are both recent recipients of the Muriel Lewis Award and Merin Lleu also played for us so they are already making their mark both as individuals and as an ensemble, with plans for new album this year to introduce music lovers to their Welsh brass repertoire.

The 2017 & 2018 National Eisteddfod Open Ensemble Competition winning group returned home last year for St Asaph Cathedrals North Wales International Music Festival where they shared the bill with Hollywood actor Jonathan Pryce, the Trelawnyd and Bro Glyndŵr Male Voice Choirs and Côr Cytgan Clwyd for a programme including wartime songs to mark the centenary of the end of the Great War.

For the evening's programme, the quintet will present William Mathias's Organ Fanfare, Anders Hillborg's Quintet and Andre Previn's Four Outings for Brass Quintet and a selection of popular and jazz items.

To support home grown talents and welcome this year's season of music, head to Rhyl Town Hall on Wednesday, October 2 at 7.30pm.

Concerts will take place every other Wednesday hereafter with tickets priced £15 for all events, available on the door or from rhylmusic.com.
