FIZZING hot fiddle music from cool Scandinavia is making its way to Bangor.

An award-winning act on the Nordic music scene and global stage Frigg is coming to Pontio, Bangor on Friday, November 9.

One of Finland’s hottest musical exports, the sizzling septet have carved themselves a top notch in folk.

Frost on Fiddles will be their eighth CD, following on from the acclaimed Polka V – Songlines’ Top of the World album, Folklandia’s Folk Album of the Year and nominated for the prestigious Teosto Prize awarded annually by Finnish composers - recognising that Frigg perform almost exclusively their own original tunes.

They have wowed crowds at events such as the Rainforest World Music Festival, WOMADelaide, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Celtic Connections, The Scots Fiddle Festival, Fiddles On Fire, Cambridge Folk Festival and Orkney Folk Festival.

There's an enthusiastic appreciation of their fiddle-founded Nordgrass sound - a mix of Nordic folk and bluegrass.

Promoters describe them as "Possibly the most exciting, uplifting, gut-wrenching & hip-twitching band in the Northern Hemisphere.

"Don’t miss this blizzard of jigs, reels, polskas, waltzes & bluegrass inventions. Scandomusic as good as it gets!"

Frank Hennessy, of BBC Radio Wales says they are "a wonderful outfit – seven artists and when they combine their talents the music is stunning."

FRIGG is also holding a Finnish fiddle tunes workshop in Bangor. It is for all string players, not just fiddlers.

Band members offer a string experience of Scandinavian tunes at Pontio Studio, on Friday, November 9, from 5.30pm-6.30pm, with jigs, reels, polkas, schottisches, waltzes, taught by ear, with scores for future reference.

For next generation players, intermediate and established players. Classical, traditional, jazz and folk players all welcome.
