THE line-up for Wales’ largest creative arts and science weekend for children and young people has been announced.

The event is called take pART and it is an annual festival, now in its 11th year, for youngsters up to the age of 18 and their families.

The largest event of its kind in Wales, there will be hundreds of individual workshops, drop-in sessions, masterclasses and performances taking place under one roof at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, on January 11 and 12.

The festival line-up includes dance classes from The Royal Ballet, based around their production of ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’, a Harry Potter festival event celebrating the magical world of the boy wizard and a talk from takepART patron Jonny Duddle, who illustrated the Harry Potter books.

The Oscar-winning company Aardman Animations will be running model-making sessions and children’s author Andy Cope, who penned the hit ‘Spy Dog’ series, will be talking about his canine creation.

Beano illustrator Laura Howell will be showing budding artists how to draw Minnie the Minx, whilst conservationist and presenter Hannah Stitfall, the face of BBC Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch digital channels, will be talking about how to make a wildlife film.

Science fans can travel through the Cosmos with the Techniquest and Dark Sky Wales Planetariums, ‘Ask An Astronomer’ with National Schools’ Observatory and celebrate the power of STEAM with Rolls-Royce and their 3D printing pen!

The cast of Pobol y Cwm will be meeting fans and doing a Q&A, whilst characters from children’s favourite Cyw will be doing a stage performance and there will be drama workshops with the Rownd a Rownd team.

Sarah Ecob, artistic programmer of take pART, said: “We’re all very excited to be running take pART again and can’t wait to share all the fantastic events that we have booked.

“I would like to thank our funding partners the Arts Council of Wales, Conwy Arts Trust and Llandudno Town Council for once again enabling Venue Cymru to run this event.”

Local people are also joining in the take pART fun through a special upcycling umbrellas competition.

They are working in conjunction with Dylan’s Restaurant in Llandudno to give old umbrellas a new look, ready to be displayed during the weekend.

Many of the events at take pART are free to join in, but some have ticketed admission.

Tickets can be obtained in lieu of a donation towards Conwy Arts Trust.
