THE RECRUITMENT of a full-time clerk leads the agenda for Whitchurch Town Council’s March meeting tomorrow.

Councillors will receive a report on the recruitment of a new member of staff to replace former clerk Stephen Platt, who resigned more than six months ago.

Town centre manager Zoe Dean has filled the role on a temporary basis, and it is believed the recruitment process is nearing an end. But the report will be discussed in private, after it was placed in part two of the agenda.

In part one of the meeting – which begins at 7.15pm at the Civic Centre – councillors will consider whether to adopt land at Sherrymill Hill for use as a car park.

The item comes in the light of recent controversy with Tesco plans to place a three-hour restriction on parking in White Lion Meadow.

Members will also be asked to consider three points from the Whitchurch Re-enactment Group – volunteers who act as a First World War PALS Regiment with medical aid.

Firstly, does the council approve of the re-enactment event, which is proposed to take place August 19-20 2017?

Secondly, will it fund the project? And finally, does the council wish for the group to become self-governing and separate to the council?

In other items, planning for the Christmas lights switch-on in 2017 will begin, while councillors will also be asked to consider a booking request from the Mod Revue Band, as part of the drive to bring more acts to the Civic.

There will be an elections update while outstanding full council resolutions are the freehold of the Civic Centre, the potential building of a skate park and increased town centre signage.

Councillors will also consider two items of correspondence, with the Citizens Advice Bureau thanking the council for its grant of £500.

A second letter from John Wodja, who is a Whitchurch resident and business owner, has highlighted the lack of litter bins in the town.

He is calling for the council to “please be positive” and put an end to the “no bins” excuse for litter in the town.

The meeting is in the Edward German Room, and anyone wishing to enjoy refreshments with councillors beforehand can do so.
