ST ASAPH City closed out their Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One season with a 2-1 loss at Barmouth and Dyffryn United.

The Saints have endured a frustrating campaign that saw them finish in 12th spot after occupying a top half place for a long period.

United began their final fixture strongly and went ahead on 20 minutes when George Southern capitalised on some hesitant defending to fire home.

After the break saw the home side double their tally ten minutes following the restart when the prolific Paul Lewis hit the target during a period of sustained pressure.

The visitors responded well and got themselves back into the game through a Jake Walker penalty on 75 minutes, but they were unable to find a leveller in the closing stages to confirm their 13th reverse in 28 contests.

Meliden striker Matthew Griffiths was on fire in their last Division Two outing as they triumphed 4-1 at home against Blaenau Amateurs.

The talented forward was in ruthless form throughout, and the league’s top scorer helped himself to four more during the rout to take his tally to 38 for the season.

Kieron Ellis’ consolation on 87 minutes did not take the gloss off another outstanding display from the home side, who now lie in seventh spot.
