PRESTATYN Sports have managed to come through adversity to be within touching distance of claiming a place in Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One.

It has been another wonderful season of achievement for the club in the face of some difficult times in recent years, but there is no doubting the belief that something special is happening thanks to an incredible rise to prominence.

Their dreams of plying their trade in the third tier were given another significant boost with the news that their Gronant base passed the ground criteria needed to achieve their pre-season objective.

With the news that Sports are also planning to form a junior side next season, the future of the club has never been brighter and that is a testament to the work being done both on the field and behind the scenes to transform into a community asset.

What Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves have done is assemble a hungry young squad who possess a great deal of ambition, something which has seen them go undefeated in the league so far and out them within one victory of the title.

A recent incident of vandalism will only strengthen their resolve, but the community spirit shown to help the club progress in terms of their facilities and sponsorship over recent months has done them the world of good.

In Ian Griffiths they have one of the most formidable and in-form front men anywhere in the region, while the likes of Kris Owen, Shane Middleman and super-sub Ian Dunn have also played a significant role in their triumphs in a season that will surely end with some silverware.

They will never face a greater challenge than the one that ultimately awaits them next term thanks to the overall strength of a division that will feature the likes of Llangefni Town, Llandudno Albion, Llanberis and Llanrug United, but if their cup exploits have told us anything it is that they are more than up for the task.

A narrow defeat against well-established Llandyrnog United in the Mawddach Cup semi-final was a bitter pill to swallow, but at least it gave the management team a strong indication as to the level the current squad can perform at against a higher quality of opposition.

The squad will need to be strengthened in order for them to do themselves justice throughout what is a gruelling campaign, but a solid foundation has already been put in place to give them at least a fighting chance of further enhancing their growing reputation at the first possible opportunity.
