LLANRWST United suffered a blow to their hopes of securing the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One crown as they were held 1-1 at home by Pwllheli.

The Rwsters returned to action in disappointing fashion following a long lay-off due to a series of postponements, and the stalemate leaves the title hopefuls in fourth spot and 16 points behind leaders Llangefni Town with five games in hand.

The hosts began the game in confident fashion and managed to take the lead on 15 minutes when Elliot Llywelyn’s persistence finally paid off after being sent through to finish well.

This provoked a strong response from the away side, who regrouped after the break and managed to level proceedings on 51 minutes when the prolific Mark Jones turned in an opportunity.

Despite their best efforts, the home side were unable to find a crucial second after controlling possession for long periods and had to be content with a share of the spoils.

The Rwsters have a chance to get back to winning ways on Saturday in their Mawddach Challenge Cup clash with Barmouth and Dyffryn United, before taking on Llandyrnog United and Penrhyndeudraeth in the space of three days during midweek in what is expected to be a gruelling run-in.
