CONWY Borough were crowned FAW Trophy champions after a resounding 4-1 win over Rhos Aelwyd.

The Tangerines successfully completed phase one of their treble attempt in fine style to claim the coveted trophy, with Gareth Thomas’ side dominating proceedings throughout the showcase.

Despite the eventual result it was Rhos that gained the upper hand in the first half when James Haynes found the net after 33 minutes following a brief period of pressure.

This provoked a strong response from a formidable Boro side, and their improved effort brought with it a leveller just before the break when Leigh Craven produced a composed finish after a sweeping attacking move.

The second period saw the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One leaders completely dominate during a ruthless 45 minutes, and they went ahead for the first time in the tie on 48 thanks to a strike from Brendun Hogan.

Things got even better for the Tangerines soon after when the prolific Corrig McGonigle continued his exceptional season with a fine effort to double their advantage after good work from strike partner Dean Seager in the build-up.

Their success was confirmed with another well-worked goal on 69 minutes, which saw Tom Creamer’s superb finish complete the scoring and Thomas’ men saw out the remainder of the game in comfortable fashion to get their hands on the trophy during the after-match presentation, with the final held at the home of Huws Gray Alliance side Airbus Broughton.

Boro’s attention now turns to Wednesday’s Cookson Cup final against Barmouth and Dyffryn United, in addition to securing an instant return to the second tier.

The long-time leaders are now level on points with Llangefni Town with a game in hand with six fixtures remaining.
