PRIMARY schools’ from across the Rhyl and Prestatyn area took part in a special rugby tournament at Christchurch last week.

The teams represented were Christchurch, Ysgol Hiraddug, Ysgol y Llys, Bodnant, Penmorfa, Brynhedydd, Ysgol Dewi Sant, Clawdd Offa, Ysgol y Melyd, Ysgol Llewelyn and Emmanual, with representation from Rhyl and District’s junior sides totalling 20 from four of the schools taking part.

A club spokesman, said: “There was tremendous sportsmanship and passion shown by all Rhyl RUFC squad members despite being on opposing teams which is a huge asset to the club and one we are proud of.

“It was a little amusing seeing Rhyl socks, shorts and training tops worn by numerous players but with different shirts, and thanks go to all to all those Rhyl RUFC parents who were also able to come and support their squad members - we appreciate that finding the hours in a working week is really really difficult.”

In addition to the squad members, the referees were also Rhyl RUFC coaches or volunteers, and after a hugely competitive afternoon of action Ysgol Brynhedydd managed to emerge victorious from the competition.
