RHYL and District were unable to cause a Conwy Land Rover Intermediate Cup shock as they fell to a 45-24 loss at in-form Denbigh.

This is the second time in as many weeks that the Dragons have been beaten by the runaway WRU National League Division Two North leaders, and their task was made more difficult with a serious injury to centre Richie Williams in the first minute of the tie.

The away side put up a more spirited display than in their league encounter, but were once again punished for a number of unforced errors by the title favourites who scored several tries throughout the contest.

Credit to the visitors, they kept fighting to find a way back into the game which brought their first try of the afternoon when Che Hudson crossed the white wash.

This was swiftly followed by another score from Tom Yates, and their brief spell of dominance produced another well-worked try courtesy of the hard-working Greg Profitt.

These were all converted by Jason Blackmore and a Cal Morris rounded off the scoring for the Dragons late on, but this was not enough to see them progress to the next round of the competition.

Rhyl return to league action this Saturday when they make the long trip to Welshpool.
