RHYL stalwart Jamie Brewerton was honoured with a special testimonial against another side he had strong connections with throughout his career.

A large crowd attended the contest against Bangor City Legends on Friday, May 4 at the Corbett Sports Stadium in recognition for the defender’s outstanding efforts for the Lilies and the Citizens over the last decade.

The home side took the lead on 18 minutes thanks to a neat finish from striker Lee Hunt, but City responded well and levelled proceedings shortly after.

Hunt was on hand once again to give the Lilywhites another advantage midway through the half, and another impressive passage of play saw Stuart White double their advantage on the half hour mark.

After the break saw the hosts add to their tally through Paul Whitfield, and Hunt rounded off an outstanding evening in front of goal with his hat-trick to give the Lilies a four-goal cushion.

The star of the show would have the final say in City colours, with Brewerton on target in the closing stages to cap off a memorable evening for the trophy laden star.

Brewerton made his debut for Rhyl back in the 1999/2000 season and during his 19-year spell with the club he lifted the JD Welsh Premier League in 2004 during their memorable quadruple campaign.

A spell at Bangor City followed between 2008 and 2014, where he also won the WPL in addition to three Welsh Cups.

The fiercely competitive player made 218 starts for the Lilywhites across 13 seasons, scoring 14 during that period.
