RHYL manager Matthew Jones was left disappointed as his side ended the Huws Gray Alliance campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Denbigh Town.

The Lilywhites closed out their second-tier campaign with back-to-back defeats to ensure they can finish no higher than sixth, and Porthmadog could leapfrog them if they win their games in hand.

A huge summer now awaits the Lilies both on-and-off the field as they look to regroup and mount a promotion charge next term.

Jones, said: “It is very disappointing to go out with two defeats and I felt the season drifted away from us when we had nothing to play for, which is not good enough.

“Denbigh are a good side but I thought we looked okay defensively, but weren’t enough of a threat going forward which is unusual because it has flipped around completely.

“There is plenty to work to be done but the key now is to rest, rebuild and make sure we start next season on full tilt and are in the mix from day one.

“We want to be up there fighting from the very start until the end but it all depends on what happens over the summer with the club.

“I don’t think it needs a full overhaul, we have enough quality to build something around the core to win the division, and it is up to us to bring the right players in to get Rhyl back to where we think we belong in the Welsh Premier League.”

A tense encounter was settled late on when the red-hot Craig Pritchard continued his exceptional recent form with a we-timed finish from close range for the hosts on 64 minutes.

Despite dominating possession thereafter, the Lilywhites were unable to create any chances of note and fell to their seventh reverse in 28 league games to finish on 47 points.
