RHYL FC will be holding academy trials next week for any aspiring stars from the region.

The Lilywhites are inviting youngsters to showcase their skills on Monday, April 23 at the Ffordd Derwen playing fields, and this is the first in a series of planned open trial events.

Director of Football Mark Connolly is keen to ensure that a clear route is established for potential Lilies’ stars of the future to progress with the Academy and start their careers playing for the club.

He said: “When I was asked to take charge of the club I wanted to know how the club was being run through the age groups.

“It’s so important that the club has a future of local talent coming through our academy and pushing themselves to reach the first team and represent their local town.

“Myself, Luke Binns and Mike Jones have sat down and restructured the academy to a system that we feel will help progress the local grass roots football whilst giving local talent the opportunity to develop as players.

“The new structure will see Luke Binns become Director of Academy football and overseeing the coaches and the academy player’s progression.”

The new structure has been implemented with a view to improving the amount of young players that come through the system into the first team fold, with a “The aim is to get these academy players into the first team and reach their potential,” added Connolly.

“The club are bending over backwards to make sure this academy becomes the best in North Wales. It will take time and it will need tweaking but what we have in place will insure this club’s future looks bright. This will be a great opportunity for the 20,000 residents in Rhyl and surrounding areas to come down to the club and show us their talent.”

Trials for under 7’s to under 11’s will be held between 5.30pm and 6.30pm and for under 12’s to under 16’s between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
