RHYL have announced a boardroom shake-up as they look to give the club more stability ahead of a crucial summer.

Lilies’ chairman Paul Higginson announced the move to strengthen the club with the appointment of four new directors in recent weeks and a new secretary on Tuesday, March 26.

Barry Mellor, Tom Jamieson, John Hughes Jones and James Curran are the newly appointed directors, with Mike Mainwaring taking over from long-serving club stalwart Dennis McNamee in the secretarial role.

Mr Higginson, said: “We take this opportunity to thank Dennis McNamee, retiring club secretary, for his dedication and exceptional contribution over the last three decades.

“Also our club cannot function without the commitment and loyalty of the volunteers at Rhyl FC and I thank each and every one of them for their unwavering dedication.”

Mellor will take on the role of vice-chairman at the Huws Gray Alliance outfit and served as the town’s mayor during the 2015/16 year, while Jamieson also moves up to boardroom level and is the current manager of the Rhyl Ladies team.

Media officer Curran has held the role at the Corbett Sports Stadium over the last two years and manages the modernising education programme for Denbighshire county council.

He said: “I’ve been a supporter of Rhyl FC since the mid 80’s and over these years one thing has always remained, the strong passion from the supporters.

“The club is something special in this town and by working with the board I hope that this relationship with the town and community can grow further.”

Hughes-Jones, who has held the role of club treasurer since 2016, was awarded an MBE in December 2004 for services to international policing is another that has followed Matthew Jones’ side over three decades.

Managing director Mike Jones, added: “They bring a wealth of experience to the club and their involvement along with existing board members will strengthen our links with the local community and help take the club forward.

“As ever the club is appreciative of the support of all volunteers at the club and I urge supporters and anyone in the town who wishes to bring assistance or a part of the volunteer group to come forward and to speak to any of the club representatives to see how they can also help the club further, everybody’s contribution is valued.”
