TWO Rhyl stalwarts have been acknowledged for their efforts at the club following their final Huws Gray Alliance game of the season.

Secretary Dennis McNamee has announced he will be retiring from the role with immediate effect, a position he has held at the Corbett Sports Stadium for more than 20 years.

This was also the last home appearance for long-standing squad member and defender Jamie Brewerton, who has made a total of 218 start across 13 seasons for the Lilywhite.

McNamee, who is also an honorary vice-president, played an instrumental part in the club’s resurgence since joining the set-up, and the departing staff member received special praise from managing director Mike Jones.

He said: “Dennis’ support over the recent years has been totally invaluable for myself and other club officials.

“Everyone in football across North Wales always speak favourably about their work with Dennis and I’m sure that all will be sad to see him step down and enjoy his well earnt retirement.

“His dedication to this football club is appreciated and he will be a tough act to follow for Mike Mainwaring who has agreed to step into the role for next season.”

Brewerton, who is also part of Matthew Jones’ backroom staff, came on as a final minute substitute in their victory over Caersws and received a huge ovation from the Rhyl faithful on his last ever home outing.

The club have arranged a testimonial in recognition of Brewerton’s contribution, which will take place on May 5 against a Bangor City Legends team.

Director of Football Mark Connolly, added: “Brewie will go down in Rhyl as a club legend and that status is fully deserved.

“I’d like to thank Brewie personally for everything he has done this season with me and over the years at the club and for giving me some great memories especially on the European away days.

“Brewie is a local lad from Rhyl and it goes to show that there is talent in this area, if you put every effort in to become the best you can you won’t be far off what he has achieved over the years.”
