RHYL turned in one of their finest performances of the season to come away with a 4-0 home win over Gresford Athletic.

The Lilywhites were completely dominant throughout the one-sided Huws Gray Alliance affair and boosted their top-two hopes in the process, and Matthew Jones’ side face a stern test of their character next Saturday when they visit Airbus Broughton (2.30pm).

Jones, said: “It has been two weeks since the Ruthin Town game which was unacceptable, and the lads have worked hard in training and taken everything on board.

“They were superb throughout and to get a result, a clean sheet and a dominant performance was very pleasing.

“New signing Liam (Langford) has trained with us twice and you can see the quality he has. He shows great composure on the ball and gives us a good balance at the back, but we have got to build on this now.

The clean sheet is a big thing and the way we defended was excellent. We didn’t let them settle and had very good discipline and shape. That’s all we can ask for as a management team and it is as pleasing as the goals we scored really.

“We cannot allow the standard to drop now, we go to Airbus next and have lads coming back into the squad so we need another good week training but they are full of confidence.”

The home side got off to a flyer when recent signing James Murphy found the net on nine minutes after good work from Phil Marsh, and they doubled their advantage just before the break when Stewart Carroll converted from the penalty spot.

After the interval saw Murphy grab his second of the game when he slotted into an empty net after initially blocking a clearance on 69 minutes, and the same player was on hand to round off the scoring and complete his hat-trick on 80 following another sweeping attacking move.
