A RHYL footballer has received help from members of the senior squad after winning a Welsh Colleges call-up.

Goalkeeper Luke Wilmot, who has represented the Lilywhites at reserve and youth level, will be part of the national side that will travel to Italy for the prestigious Roma Caput Mundi tournament at the end of March.

He has also been selected for the forthcoming friendly to be played on Thursday, February 15 at Cefn Druids when Wales Schools FA Under 18’s host Ireland.

The former Rhyl High School pupil is being sponsored by members of the Huws Gray Alliance squad to ensure the Welsh Colleges FA meet the costs of participating in this tournament.

Defender Tony Davies, said: “Once the lads found out about this great opportunity for Luke to represent his country in Italy as a group of players we all agreed to chip in to meet the costs to ensure he was able to join up with the rest of the squad.

“For youngsters like Luke this is a tremendous opportunity and one that can only help him move forward and help him develop further.”

Wilmot, added: “I can’t thank the boys enough for what they’ve done not just the sponsorship but so far over the season.

“Being in and around the first team players has taught me so much about getting to the next level, I’ve learnt a little bit off every player in the squad this year which I can take on board and will help me.

“To be able to represent your country is a massive thing at any level so to be chosen for it means a lot to me. I’m hoping to make the experience a regular thing and do myself and the club proud.”
