RHYL manager Matthew Jones praised his side’s second half display as they returned to winning ways with a 3-1 home win over Llandudno Junction.

The Lilywhites made hard work of things against the Huws Gray Alliance basement dwellers, but a strong finish saw them come away with three points and they will be hoping for further success against the Railwaymen in the Huws Gray Cup at the Arriva Stadium next Saturday.

Jones, said: “We have been working over the last few weeks about raising the level of performance and we fell well short in the first half.

“We weren’t at it at all and were miles below the standards we expect and the players demand of themselves. We addressed it, changed system and personal at half time and I thought from the middle of the second half we showed glimpses of our full potential.

“It was important to get the result and win but credit to Junction they put in a determined effort and their management team can be proud of that, and it is a lesson for our players that you cannot take any game lightly and have to have the same attitude.

“We knew they were going to be a tough team to break down and we simply took too long to get going. This will be fresh in our minds for next week’s cup game and conditions are going to be very tough there as it’s a small pitch which will allow them to sit in and make things difficult. It is up to us to come up with solutions and get a result.”

Despite dominating for long periods during the opening exchanges, the home side fell behind on 35 minutes when Sean McCaffrey beat the offside trap to slot past Rory Crowther.

This provoked a strong response from the Lilies, who levelled matters soon after when Jordan Barrow fired past Ryan Woods from the edge of the area on 41 minutes after having a previous effort ruled out for offside.

The introduction of Aaron Pomeyie and new signing James Murphy at the break brought a fresh injection of pace into the hosts attack, and they took the lead for the first time in the contest on 68 minutes when Barrow notched his second of the afternoon.

Murphy played a huge part in the third goal for the home side on 80 minutes after he was brought down in the area following another surging run, and Stewart Carroll made no mistake from the spot to complete the scoring.
