PRESTATYN Town bowed out of the JD Welsh Premier League with a 0-0 home draw with coastal rivals Llandudno.

The Seasiders secured their second straight clean sheet despite having defender Reece Fairhurst between the posts for their final top-flight contest, and manager Gareth Wilson will now be tasked with getting the squad ready for a Huws Gray Alliance title charge next term.

Town also said goodbye to long-serving skipper Dave Hayes, who is retiring from football after 15 years and both sets of players gave the defender a guard of honour to mark his contribution.

The hosts almost went ahead early on when a stunning 30-yard effort from James Stead rattled the crossbar on five minutes, while Ben Maher and Zyaac Edwards both missed chances within the opening 15.

Tudno forward Lee Thomas, who was also playing his final game for Iwan Williams’ side, had a great chance to break the deadlock when he was put through on goal, but his effort was saved in style by Fairhurst to keep the scores level.

This was swiftly followed by David Thompson and Wes Baynes both hitting the bar with respective efforts during a prolonged period of possession towards the end of a scoreless first period.

A free-kick from the away side evaded everyone on 50 minutes to hit the post, and at the other end Noah Edwards and Maher both had strikes blocked in the opening exchanges.

The second period had a distinct end-of-season feel to it with brought little in the way of goalmouth opportunities, with Robbie Parry’s effort for the away side forcing another smart stop from Fairhurst as both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils on the night.

The stalemate sees Wilson’s side end the season with 19 points and four wins from their 32 games, while Tudno concluded the campaign third-from-bottom with 36 points and nine victories.
