PRESTATYN Town skipper Dave Hayes was the hero as his side shared the spoils with Barry Town United in a 0-0 stalemate.

The veteran defender was tasked with goalkeeping responsibilities after Carl Jones was dismissed after just eight minutes, and he pulled off a string of smart stops to ensure the Seasiders’ claimed their 18th JD Welsh Premier League point of the season.

Gareth Wilson’s side bow out of the top flight on Friday evening when they host coastal rivals Llandudno (7.30pm) in their final game of the season.

Noah Edwards almost gave the home side an early advantage when his header flashed wide, but their hopes of success were dealt a blow soon after when Jones was shown a straight red card on eight minutes.

He was called into action to deny the visitors on numerous occasions throughout the half, while at the other end James Stead and Ben Maher both went within a whisker of opening the scoring.

After the break saw the Seasiders’ soak up significant pressure due to their numerical disadvantage, with Hayes pulling off stunning finger-tip save to deny Luke Hooper after 49 minutes.

The homes side were threatening on the break at times, with Maher again failing to hit the target just after the hour mark after some fine invidual work to give himself the opportunity.

Club stalwart Hayes was on hand to deny Jordan Cotterill with an outstanding two-footed save soon after, and he pulled off another smart stop in the closing stages to ensure his side had something to show for a resolute display that will give them plenty of encouragement heading into their final league game against Tudno, who will be releasing the influential brother duo of Mike and Marc Williams following the clash.
