PRESTATYN Town have been relegated from the JD Welsh Premier League after a 2-0 defeat at Barry Town United.

The Seasiders will ply their trade in the Huws Gray Alliance once again next term after just one season in the top flight, and they are no longer able to catch third-from-bottom Aberystwyth Town following their 19th defeat in 28 league contests.

Gareth Wilson’s side will look to finish the campaign on a high in their remaining two fixtures, with Barry coming to the Motion Finance Stadium for their re-arranged clash on Saturday (2.30pm).

A nervy start to proceedings brought little in the way of scoring opportunities for either side, with Jon Hood’s effort coming closet for the home side in the opening exchanges.

Things finally came to life on 41 minutes when Jordan Cotterill broke the deadlock with a sweetly struck half volley that flew past visiting custodian Carl Jones.

This resulted in a confrontation between both sets of players due to Ryan Newman’s celebration, which saw James Stead receive his second booking and leave the away side down to ten men.

After the interval saw the hosts also have a man sent off when Luke Copper’s rash challenge on Damian Ketley receive a second yellow, and this resulted in a strong spell from Town which crucially did not bring with it a leveller.

Wilson’s men had their fate sealed on 85 minutes when 85 minutes after a delivery from the impressive Hood was diverted into the net from close range by Drew Fahiya to condemn the Seasiders to the drop.

Following Saturday’s return clash against the Europa League hopefuls, Town take on Aberystwyth and Newtown before ending their brief stay in the WPL at home to derby rivals Llandudno as they look to build some confidence ahead of their imminent return to the second tier.
