PRESTATYN Town boss Gareth Wilson began his time at the helm with a 3-1 loss at JD Welsh Premier League relegation rivals Carmarthen Town.

The Seasiders remain seven points adrift of safety with a game in hand after failing to hold to a lead at Richmond Park, and they will look to end a run of ten defeats on the bounce in all competitions when Town entertain Barry Town United on Saturday (2.30pm).

The Old Gold went close to breaking the deadlock early on when Luke Bowen fired over after an eye-catching individual run, and the same player spurned another opportunity midway through the half following another period of pressure in what were difficult conditions throughout.

Gradually the visitors began to see more of the ball and they had a great chance to seize an advantage just before the interval when Ben Maher’s lofted effort sailed wide of the target.

After the break saw Wilson’s men grab a crucial lead on 49 minutes when midfield talisman Michael Parker reacted first after Steve Thomas could only parry an initial effort to fire home from close rang, after the hosts failed to deal with a well-worked free-kick routine from the Seasiders.

The game was turned on its head thanks to a stunning spell from Mark Aizlewood’s side, who levelled matters on 67 minutes when Mark Jones levelled proceedings, and this was swiftly followed by Bowen finally getting his name on the scoresheet on 80 to give them the lead for the first time.

With Town now throwing caution to the wind in search of a leveller, the home side broke quickly and secured a vital victory when Jones despatched his second of the game to condemn the Huws Gray Alliance champions to their 15th defeat in 22 contests since their return to the top flight.
