PRESTATYN Town manager Neil Gibson urged his side not to be too despondent following their 4-1 home reverse to The New Saints of Oswestry Town.

The Seasiders put in a spirited display before eventually wilting under significant pressure issued by the champions and current leaders, and they remain in the bottom two places ahead of their final phase one encounter at Newtown on Saturday (5.15pm).

Gibson, said: “I am disappointed with the result as I thought the lads put in strong performance in the first half.

“We well in the game at that stage but the second game deflates us and kills the game a little bit. Once a side like TNS go two-up and they start using the ball well it tires us out and makes it difficult, but I was pleased with the character that we showed.

“Our season will not be defined by games like this, it is about how we do next week and the 11 games we have left. We cannot get too despondent and we finished on a high with Oli (Buckley) scoring on his debut with quality we have been lacking for x amount of weeks “I am pleased with the effort and if things were going well for us then things might have been different, but things aren’t going our way at the present time.”

The home side had nothing to show for a bright opening to proceedings and they went behind on eight minutes when Wes Fletcher found the net, and they doubled their advantage after the break when Jon Routledge struck on 47.

Things went from bad-to-worse for the hosts when Alex Darlington finished well on 61 minutes, and the away side notched a fourth on 73 courtesy of Aeron Edwards.

The introduction of Buckley brought injected some much-needed freshness to the Town attack, and the forward marked his first appearance for the club with a superb effort in stoppage time.
