DENBIGH Town have officially confirmed that Eddie Maurice-Jones has stepped down as manager.

After The Journal initially reported the move on Tuesday, the Huws Gray Alliance side released a statement the same evening announcing the departure of the talented young boss.

Maurice-Jones has been heavily linked with a move to second tier rivals Rhyl in recent days, and The Journal also understands that they have offered him their vacant managerial position.

The two sides are currently finalising the finer details ahead of the reported appointment, which would see Maurice-Jones replace Matthew Jones who left his role at the helm last week.

He said: "I would like to thank everyone for welcoming me to Denbigh Town, supporting me through some tough times and giving me the opportunity to manage your great club.

“I can honestly say it has been a tough week and a decision I have not taken lightly but the opportunity before me is one I cannot miss.

“I hope you can see to support and understand my position. I have gained some great friendships with you all and wish you all the very best in the future."

Maurice-Jones is widely regarded as one of the best young managers in the region and steered the Central Park side to their highest ever league finish when they finished second behind champions Caernarfon Town after a memorable second half of the campaign.

The move also casts doubt on the futures of a number of current Town players who have been fiercely loyal to Maurice-Jones, who also has ties with Rhyls new director of football Dave Norman during their time together at Gresford Athletic.

A Denbigh Town statement, said: “After an excellent season at the helm of Denbigh Town FC manager Eddie Maurice-Jones has informed the club that he is stepping down.

“Our steady climb continued right to the end until Denbigh Town FC finished in the Runners Up position which is the highest the club has ever finished in the Welsh pyramid system - a fabulous achievement which has brought much pride to the club and the people of Denbigh.

“This success has, inevitably, attracted the attention of a number of clubs and Eddie has decided the time is right for him to leave.

“We would like to thank Eddie for all he has done for the club and he leaves with our best wishes.”
