MELIDEN were unable to pick up a win on their travels as they fell to a heavy 5-1 reverse at Aberffraw.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two side started the game poorly and fell behind on seven minutes when Nathan Moore found the net, but they responded well to the setback and levelled matters on 24 when the prolific Matthew Griffiths burst clear and finished well.

After the break saw the home side completely dominate proceedings, and they got their noses back in front after 65 minutes when a neat passage of play resulted in Gary Bolton hitting the target.

Things went from bad-to-worse for the visitors soon after when Aber scored two goals in quick succession to extend their advantage, with Richard Roberts and Moore on target during a devastating spell of pressure.

The hosts went on the heap more misery on their opponents in the closing stages, with Kieron Rees’ superb strike on 75 minutes rounding off the scoring.

Their 12th loss of the league campaign leaves Meliden sitting in eighth position in the standings with one game remaining.

Title favourites Prestatyn Sports will have to wait at least one more gameday before their championship is confirmed after Bodedern Athletic ground out a 2-0 home success over Blaenau Amateurs.

A brace from in-form striker Stephen Whittaker was enough to give the promotion hopefuls a deserved victory, with Sports needing one more win to get their hands on silverware.
