RHYL closed out their Huws Gray Alliance home fixtures with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Caersws.

The Lilywhites kept their hopes of a top three finish alive with a workmanlike display which was enough to secure three points against the Bluebirds, and Matthew Jones’ men will look to continue their positive momentum this Saturday when they make the difficult trip to Holyhead Hotspur (2.30pm).

A poor first half from both sides brought little in the way of good opportunities, with the only notable effort arriving on 29 minutes when Tom Hartley’s thunderous volley rattled the crossbar to almost put the home side ahead.

After the break saw the hosts immediately stamp their authority on proceedings, and they were rewarded for their improved tempo on 49 minutes when striker Phil Marsh found the net from close range after getting on the end of a Mark Connolly delivery.

The same player nearly doubled their advantage soon after but he fired his effort wide from a tight angle, while Aaron Pomeyie forced the visiting custodian into a stunning fingertip save during a dominant spell of pressure.

They were made to pay for their inefficiency in-front of goal on 57 minutes when the away side levelled thanks to Steve Blenkinsop, who took advantage of some hesitant defending to fire home.

Pomeyie missed two good chances to restore the hosts’ advantage following the setback but fluffed his lines on both occasions, but they got their noses in-front yet again on 76 minutes when defender Jason Jeffries headed into the bottom corner for what proved to be the decisive moment of the contest.

The Lilies held their nerve in the final stages to come away with their 12th league success in 25 contests, and find themselves in third spot with just three games of the season remaining.
