ANOTHER huge twist in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One championship race unfolded this week.

Both Conwy Borough and Llangefni Town were in action on Wednesday, with Chris Roberts’ side gaining an advantage on the FAW Trophy finalists following their 4-0 home win over Mynydd Llandegai.

The hosts got off to a good start and went ahead on 22 minutes when Gavin Sharpe found the net, before Matthew Jones doubled their advantage with a neat finish on 38.

Things got even better before the break when Cameron Jones all-but wrapped up the points on 44 minutes, and after the interval saw Matthew Jones notch his second of the evening to round off the scoring.

Gareth Thomas’ title hopefuls have now potentially lost their advantage after they were held 2-2 at home by Llanrug United.

The in-form Boro side got off to the best possible start when Jamie Roberts finished well in the opening exchanges, and recent signing from Llandudno Junction marked his return from injury with another sensational effort on 16 minutes to put them in the ascendancy.

United responded extremely well to the setback and reduced the deficit on 40 minutes when the prolific Allan Mark Owen got them back into the contest, and this was swiftly followed up by Aaron Hughes levelling matters a minute before the break to claim a share of the spoils.

A dramatic night of action now sees Town move to within five points of Boro’ with two games in hand in a title race that is set to go down to the wire.
