RHYL boss Matthew Jones has been reflecting on his first few weeks in-charge of the Huws Gray Alliance outfit.

The Lilywhites currently sit in fifth spot after recovering from a difficult start to the season, and Jones outlined the positives he has taken since taking over ahead of their home clash against former manager Niall McGuinness and Flint Town United on Saturday (2.30pm).

He said: “The first few weeks have, overall, been pleasing. We have suffered some setbacks, and some performances that are not the standard we are looking to set but I said when we took over that it would take time for us to bed in the philosophies but we are seeing signs now of it coming to life.

“In relation to me personally it’s been fantastic working with the management team we have in place, the individuals behind the scenes at the club have been fully supportive and the players have reacted extremely well to what is being asked of them.

“The biggest positives really has been that we look a real threat going forward, we like to play on the front foot and I feel this has led to some entertaining and high scoring games. The vital thing for us now is to ensure we get the other side of the game right to ensure that we are both ruthless going forward and ruthless in defending.”

The manager has stated that the aim for the remainder of the campaign is to “pick up as many points as possible”, and Jones also praised Director of Football Mark Connolly for the impact his new signings have made on the squad.

“Mark and the board have worked extremely hard to recruit players that will bring that but extra to the squad, we have a strategy when it comes to player recruitment and I feel now that this work is starting to pay off,” he added.

“The summer is very important for us. For me as a coach, I am really looking forward to a full preseason, where we can work with the players and really bed down our ideas and philosophies.

“The summer will also give us to chance to take stock and review this season and the lessons we have learnt to ensure we come back next season a stronger and more efficient unit.

“We know where we need to improve in relation to tactics etc and the summer will give us the opportunity to really address this in detail with the players.”
