LLANRUG United’s FAW Trophy journey ended at the quarter-final stage following a 5-2 home loss.

The hosts were unfortunate not to go ahead early on when Jonathan Sadler forced a smart save from Danny Stanton, Gradually the away side began to see more of the ball and they were awarded a penalty on 28 minutes when Sam Jones was brought down, which Danny Calvert converted.

An almost identical sequence of events resulted in the second spot kick of the afternoon for the visitors after Jones was once again felled, and Calvert held his nerve to double their advantage on 37 minutes.

United looked to have found a route back into the tie on 51 minutes when Gavin Lloyd-Jones finished well after good work from Allan Mark Owen, but the effort was chalked off for offside.

The visitors sealed their passage to the semi-finals on 58 minutes when Jones prodded home from close range after a Connor Hughe strike was only parried, but the home side finally got on the scoresheet following another setback when prolific striker Owen produced a thunderous effort from outside the box.

This joy proved to be short-lived as the away side restored their cushion courtesy of a fine individual effort from Hughes, and Calvert rounded off an impressive afternoon at the office with a stunning free-kick to complete his hat-trick on 80 minutes.

Marvin Pritchard netted another consolation for the hosts after heading home a Mathew Phillips delivery late on to complete the scoring.
