PRESTATYN Sports enjoyed a fantastic weekend in their pursuit of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two title.

Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves’ side came from behind to extend their unbeaten run with a 2-1 home win over Blaenau Amateurs, and things were made even better with the news that leaders Glan Conwy suffered a 2-1 reverse to Bodedern Athletic.

This enabled the gap to be closed to 16 points, with Sports having a huge eight games in hand on their promotion rivals.

Despite the eventual result it was the visitors who gain an early advantage when Kieran Ellis caught the hosts out with a neat finish after just four minutes.

This provoked a strong response from the home side, who wasted no time in levelling matters when Kris Owen found the target after an extended period of possession.

They got their noses in front on 32 minutes courtesy of a Jack McDougall effort, and the home side managed to see the game out to secure a vital three points in their quest for glory.

Sports are now the only remaining unbeaten side this season in North Wales as they face a brutal run in thanks to a series of cancellations over the winter.

Meliden also managed to secure just their third home triumph of the campaign with a 2-1 win over Aberffraw.

James Cairns produced a neat finish to open the hosts’ account on 28 minutes, but they looked to have thrown away their victory on 82 after allowing Matthew Reynolds to fire in an equaliser.

Credit to the home side, they dusted themselves off and restored their advantage on 84 minutes thanks to a Mehmet Petrit effort.
