A SUPERB bowling performance from Lewis Tolond was not enough to prevent Abergele from suffering a narrow 12-run home loss to Pontblyddyn.

The visitors had no answer to Tolond’s devastating spell, which saw him take the wickets of Alistair Roberts (19), David Foulkes (9), skipper James Birch (16), wicketkeeper James Griffiths (28) and Lewis Davies (0) to end the day with sensational figures of 5-35 from 11 overs.

He was aided at the other end by Kyle Walker, who helped himself to three wickets for the loss of 35 runs, while opener Ben Mason top scored with 25 as the away side were all out for a modest total of 164.

The home run chase got off to a difficult start when Gareth Edwards and Karl Higgins fell at the hands of Rhys Jones after making two and three respectively, while Ben Mason despatched Tolond (3) cheaply to give them a mountain to climb.

An encouraging knock of 32 from Ben Garnett got them back on track, but he was clean bowled by Glenn Chambers during a crucial stage of the innings which proved to be the turning point.

Gele captain Ed Rooney continued his fine recent form with an unbeaten 34 to give his side a fighting chance, but they were unable to claim a much-needed triumph as only Walker (10) made it into double figures thereafter as the home side finishing their allotted 50 overs on 152-7.

The second unit also lost after posting just 73 all out in their heavy reverse at St Asaph.
