ST ASAPH suffered their second North Wales Cricket League Premier Division loss of the season after a 121-run reverse at title rivals Menai Bridge.

The Saints were unable to claim a single point from their efforts against their in-form opponents, and Will Ryan’s men will look to get back to winning ways this Saturday when they entertain Brymbo.

Bridge made a strong start with the bat before Richard Marsh Evans took out the opening pair of wicketkeeper Jack Gower and Luke Jones for 24 and 41, while skipper Dion Holden was trapped lbw by Andrew Bellis after contributing 39.

Robbie Joes was superbly run out by Paul Fleming on a duck, but a sublime knock from Gethin Roberts tipped the scales in the home side’s favour further until he played a Danny Ryan delivery into the hands of Mike Thompson on 69.

Another significant score came in the form of Ed Gatsby’s 39, while Jason Foulkes claimed two for 41 runs as the hosts set an imposing target of 245-7 from their 50 overs.

The visiting run chase got off to a disastrous start when Mathew Ryan was clean bowled by Gethin Roberts without making a single run, while in-form opener Duncan Midgley fell to a Patrick Glover strike on four.

Will Ryan (9), Foulkes (0), Fleming (8) and Thompson (1) all fell cheaply in the middle order, with Holden ending a superb five over spell with figures of 3-12 to put his side further in the ascendancy.

The batting resistance came in the form of overseas star Nathanael Scott, who produced a number of exceptional strokes on his way to 56, but it was not enough to get the away side to their required target as they mustered 124 all out in reply.

Ryan’s men now find themselves in fourth spot ahead of their clash against the current leaders this weekend.
