PRESTATYN Seconds opened their home league campaign with a hard-fought draw against Alder.

Skipper Joe Horton endured a torrid time in the middle and was trapped lbw by Harpeet Sodhi for a duck, and Jason Edwards was removed by Graeme Bowen after failing to contribute a single run.

Things were a little better for Kieron Tidswell, who made 13, but the partnership of Ashley Jones and Steve Edwards stopped the rot and gave the home side a fighting chance.

Jones produced a number of eye catching strokes on his way to 44, while Edwards was caught off a Sodhi delivery on 41.

Other valuable double figure scores came from Jake Jones (23) and Mark Sheridan (25) as the hosts were all out for 153 from 45 overs.

Danny Pryde got the home side off to a positive start in the field, taking out Ravi Ravindranath (18), captain Paul Fearnyough (1) and Gareth Bell (0) in quick succession, and the bowler also trapped Sodhi lbw for a duck on his way to impressive figures of 4-31.

He was aided at the other end by Ashley Jones, who claimed the scalps of Ashley Jones (35) and Andrew Jones (0) to end his spell on 2-14, but the Beach Close side were unable to claim the win after falling two wickets short at the close of play.

Horton’s side will be hoping for more luck when they travel to Hightown St Mary’s Seconds on Saturday.
