PRESTATYN are searching for their first Liverpool and District Cricket League Division One win of the season after a 41-run loss at Wigan.

The Beach Close side were unable to capitalise on a strong performance in the field during their second defeat of the campaign, and Gareth Boughey’s side will be hoping for better fortune this Saturday when they host Fleetwood Hesketh.

Bowler Kieron New got the away side off to a flyer with the early wickets of Jake Leyland (12), John Richardson (5) and Aaron Redmond (9) during a devastating spell, while Boughey also got in on the act by sending skipper Charles Taylor (3) and Declan Mulvey (13) in quick succession on his way to figures of 2-23 from five overs.

The home resistance came in the form of Siddesh Dixit, who was five short of his half century when he was caught and bowled by New, and the seamer also disposed of Ryan Parry to end on 5-39 as the hosts set a target of 144.

Opener Ryan Westwell was trapped lbw by Parry for six early on, with Sheil Sethi (10), Peter Cassidy (7) and David Harris (4) were also sent back to the pavilion having failed to make it into double figures.

Boughey made a promising 28 before he was caught by John Richardson off a Dixit delivery, and the same bowler made a further impact on the game with the wickets of Robbie Rimmington (2), Rhys Jones (3) and Andrew Harris (0) to end a sensational 17 over spell with figures of 5-37.

This proved to be the difference between the two sides on the day, and despite Daniel Williams top scoring with 37, it was not enough to claim the victory as the away side collapsed to 103 all out from 43 overs at the crease.
