A POOR batting display saw Prestatyn Seconds fall to a seven-wicket home loss to Burscough in their first league fixture.

Opener Kieron Tidswell made just one for the hosts before he was caught off an Ollie Marshall delivery, while Jason Edwards was trapped lbw by Philip Bradley-Jones on 10 during a difficult start.

Adi Croughan and Isaac Sheriden were both run out after contributing a run apiece, with Gary Jones (2), Danny Pryde (1), Rai Anmol (9) and Mark Sheridan (2) also out cheaply.

The home resistance came in the form of skipper Joe Horton, who secured 20 before he played a Callum Craven delivery into the hands of Kenny Hughes, and Ashley Jones finished the innings unbeaten on 30 as Prestatyn were all out for 78 off 36 overs.

Their run defence got off to a good start when David Morgan saw off Craig McAnaney early on for 14, while Mark Taylor (5) and Josh Murray (2) were despatched from the crease by Isaac Sheridan and Tidswell in quick succession soon after.

That was as good as it got for the Beach Close outfit, who were unable to claim another wicket thanks to the standout effort of opener Michael Bunn, who got his side over the line with 37 not out to ensure they reached their target with minimal fuss after 28 overs.

Prestatyn’s first team get their campaign underway next Saturday when they host Southport and Birkdale, while the second unit are on their travels with a visit to Skelmersdale.
