ST ASAPH got their North Wales Cricket League Premier Division campaign off to the best possible start thanks to a 94-run victory over Llandudno.

Will Ryan’s men produced an accomplished performance on both sides of the ball to achieve success in fine style, and the title contenders will look to gain consecutive wins when they are next in action on May 5 against Hawarden Park.

The home side elected to bat and made a difficult start when the opening pair of Mathew Ryan and Duncan Midgley were dismissed at the hands of Matthew Jones and Jack Rimmington for 12 and three respectively.

The brother duo of Will and Danny Ryan attempted to steady the ship before both falling to Jones for 19 and four, but it was the knock of Nathanael Scott that changed the complexion of the game during a crucial time.

He produced a patient 58 from 84 deliveries before eventually becoming Jones’ latest victim as he ended the day with figures of 4-51 from 12 overs.

Scott was ably assisted at the crease by Jason Foulkes, who fell eight short of a half century in what was a promising innings, while David North finished unbeaten on 28 as the hosts finished 192-8.

Tudno’s Danial Evans helped himself to three wickets for the loss of 47 runs, but he was unable to replicate this performance with the bat as he was ousted early on courtesy of North after making just four.

The wickets continued to fall as Keegan Armstrong (6), Sam Rimmington (0) and Alex Owen (5) were all out cheaply, while opener Jones made 20 before being trapped lbw by Paul Fleming (2-24).

Foulkes helped himself to three wickets for the loss of 24 runs, while Richard Marsh-Evans contributed a brace at the expense of 27 as the visitors mustered 98 all out in reply.
