PRESTATYN have strengthen their squad ahead of the new Liverpool and District Cricket League Division One season.

The Beach Close outfit will once again be spearheaded by Gareth Boughey, who has agreed to remain as skipper for the upcoming campaign.

They have also decided to bring in an overseas talent after not employing one last term, with bowling all-rounder Peter Cassidy agreeing terms with the second-tier outfit.

The pace bowler also bats in the middle order and plays for Dandenong in the Victoria Premier League in Australia.

Cassidy had a consistent year and recorded figures of 2-12 off ten overs in this year’s Grand Final, and also produced a stunning effort to help his team claim the title, finishing the second contest with 6-22.

He has been highly touted by the Australian press and is hoping a successful season with Prestatyn can earn a place on a side for the Big Bash.

Their bowling attack has received another boost with the news that Ray Mendez has signed on after moving to the area from London, while the club are also hopeful of securing the services of top order batsman Darren Thomas before their opening fixture at Newton-le-Willows on Saturday, April 21.

A number of talented youngsters are also set to be given a chance with the senior side after impressing during their winter training programme as Boughey’s men look to improve on their eighth placed finish last term.

A club spokesman, said: “Our aims for the season is just looking to consolidate a position in Division One first and foremost.

“It’s the most competitive league every year and always very close, and anyone can beat anyone.

“Obviously the team wants to finish as high as possible and we have strengthened with an overseas and not lost any players but it’s a tough league.”
