ST Asaph have boosted their batting prospects ahead of the new season with the acquisition of Duncan Midgley.

The talented opener has been cofirmed as a significant signing at Elwy Grove Park for the upcoming North Wales Cricket League Premier Division campaign, and he is set to play a huge role for Will Ryan’s title chasers.

Midgley is no stranger to the club and has also enjoyed spells at Mochdre, Llandudno and Llanrwst during his career.

Despite playing just nine times for Matthew Humphreys’ relegated side last season, the opener still managed to average 38 and secure four half centuries which totalled 24 per cent of the team’s runs.

He has hit more than 2,200 runs in his career at an average of 34, with a top score of 121 and just three ducks to his name.

The city side were the surprise package of the top-flight campaign last term and will look to mount a championship challenge this time around after keeping their ambitious squad intact, and they begin their quest for the crown with a home tie against rivals Llandudno on Saturday, April 21.

This will be followed by another home tie against Hawarden Park, before going on their travels for two extremely important early season fixtures at derby rivals Denbigh and Menai Bridge.
