FIVE Abergele Harriers travelled to Wrexham for the Wrexham 10 mile road race that once again incorporated the North Wales Championships, coming home with several prizes including team and individual titles.
The team went one better than last year, winning both the North Wales Men's and Veteran Men's Championship titles, having been silver medallists in both categories twelve months previously with the exact same team.
On a deceptively breezy but warm d
ay Sean McCormack took 35 seconds off his previous best for the distance, finishing 5th overall and 1st MV45 in the open race, adding the MV45 North Wales 10 Mile title to the MV40 Half Marathon title he won just two months ago, in this, his first race in his new category.
With only five men breaking the hour on the day, Dewi Roberts was 6th home overall in an excellent 60mins 18secs, winning the MV40 prize in the open race and gaining 2nd position in the MV40 North Wales Championships.
Steven McCormack proved he is right back on form, when despite only deciding to enter the race at the last minute, he still managed a superb 61mins 24secs, winning the prize for 5th man overall in the open race and second Under 20 in the Championships.
Gareth Roberts beat his last year's time by almost two and a half minutes, finishing in a tremendous 62mins 2secs for 3rd MV40 in the Championships.
Haydn Jones, despite not getting among the individual prizes, had the consolation of taking the greatest amount off his personal best for the distance, by slicing a massive three minutes forty seconds off his last years time, to finish in an outstanding 67mins 51secs.
Meanwhile on Wednesday the Club will be hoping for an excellent turnout for the final race of the Borders Road Running League in Deeside, with several members in line for individual prizes and the Men's Veteran team currently leading the was in the Veterans League title race.
