WOEFUL shooting by Rhyl was all the difference between the two sides at Latham Park, Newtown, last Sunday.
Llanelli are on target for a triple crown, having already been crowned champions of the Welsh Premier they face Bangor City in the final of the Welsh Cup next week and look certain to nail the final prize.
The full-timers of Llanelli had just a coup
le of clear cut chances and took them well while Rhyl squandered opening after opening as they dominated the second half.
The opening goal was pure class. Andy Legg launched one of his trade mark long throw ins to Andrew Mumford in acres of space 25 yards out and the experienced man let fly with a rocket volley that flew into the Rhyl net off a post.
Slack marking at a corner brought the second Llanelli goal just before the break when Chris Holloway ghosted in at the near post to flick home Gari Lloyd's flag kick.
At the other end Llanelli keeper Duncan Roberts was relieved to see Chris Sharp's attempt fly well wide when in a good shooting position.
After the break Rhyl dominated possession but their radar was well off the screen.
Time and time again shots flew high or wide with Sharp, Lee Hunt and the outstanding Gareth Wilson all guilty.
It took until the 71st minute for Rhyl to seriously test Roberts in the Llanelli goal and he pulled off a great diving save to deny Craig Jones. From the corner kick skipper George Horan headed over from five yards and another good chance had gone begging.
RHYL: Kendall, Ruffer, Graves, Connolly, Horan, O'Neill (Garside 55), Jones, Wilson, Hunt, Sharp, Roberts. Unused subs: White, Holt.
Manager John Hulse must now turn his attention to the Inter Toto Cup ties against Irish side Bohemians of Dublin in late June.
With a number of players now out of contract and the transfer window not opening until July Hulse has the task of convincing certain players that their future lies with Rhyl.
The next matches at Belle Vue are the Home Nations non-league internationals.
Rhyl host all three of the Wales games. Northern Ireland have pulled out of the competition as their season is in full swing so Gibraltar have stepped in to make up the four.
The Belle Vue games are: Wales v Scotland, Tuesday May 20 (7pm); Wales v Gibraltar, Thursday May 22 (7pm) and Wales v England, Saturday May 24 (2pm).
